POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop and implement expedient and accurate costing representations of various and varied manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.  The Manufacturing Cost Engineer (MCE) functions exactly as a manufacturing engineer, except that this position places a heavy emphasis on costing and pricing new products, especially those that reside under commercial business and commercial market segments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Analyze blueprints, sketches, samples, statements of work and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  2. Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  3. Consult with clients, vendors, machine builders, or personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  4. Confer with engineers, customers, business development, vendors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to manufacturing cost estimates.
  5. Review material and labor requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
  6. Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  7. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  8. Assist in coordinating manufacturing launches for new or revised products.
  9. Participate in business development, engineering, and product development meetings.
  10. Work on cost estimates and budgetary project proposals (60% time spent).
  11. Assist others in the engineering department to establish methods, equipment, and layout scenarios in order to ascertain accurate cost representations of said systems (10% time spent).
  12. Assist other engineers in planning and implementing new sewing or assembly lines utilizing the optimal systems and controls to achieve the production, quality and use of disabled workers objectives (30% time spent).  The MCE will ensure that the newly established processes mirror costing scenarios very closely.
  13. Communicate information or changes within the organization to employees.
  14. Issue written and oral instructions when required and when appropriate.
  15. This position has no supervisor responsibilities.
  16. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.  Other duties will not go beyond the scope of an industrial or manufacturing engineer.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed on the job analysis are representative of the skill, and/or ability required.

Education: Associates or Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or Business Administration.

Experience: Five years working in apparel or sewing related industry or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience relating to commercial products and/or Third Party Logistics very desirable.

Specific Skills: English proficiency required/ Spanish proficiency is helpful. Industrial Engineering skills and knowledge related to apparel or sewn products manufacturing.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc: Must be able to learn time-study and predetermined time systems such as MTM or GSD (used in the apparel industry).  In trade and as a surrogate, the candidate may possess strong industrial engineering background.

Other Skills and Abilities: Effective oral and written communication skills required. Ability to use general office equipment (i.e. facsimile, photocopy, and/or related office peripherals).  Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Physical Demands: Frequently sits, bends, kneels, and reaches out with hands/arms. Must be able to lift/move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
